Provinces: Extremadura is divided into two provinces: Cáceres in the north and Badajoz in the south.  The two provinces are named after their respective capital cities.

Terrain:  Olive tree and vineyard covered hills and fertile valleys are divided by three mountain ranges. The temperate Mediterranean climate has dry hot summers and mild winters.  The Tajo river flows from east to west across the province of Cáceres creating the largest man-made reservoir system in Western Europe. A modern nuclear power station operates on the Tajo in eastern Cáceres. South of the central mountains of Guadalupe and Montánchez, the Guadiana river runs southwesterly through the province of Badajoz producing the most fertile agricultural region of Extremadura.
